How to get from Geneva to Courchevel: every option compared

Geneva Airport is the most popular gateway to Courchevel, whether you fly in from London, Paris, Dubai or New York. The resort is about 150 km from the airport – a little over 2 hours by road in good conditions. Here are the different ways to make the journey, with their pros and cons.

The Geneva – Courchevel route

From the airport, the route follows the motorway towards Annecy or Chambéry, then Albertville and the N90 to Moûtiers at the foot of the 3 Valleys. From there, about twenty kilometres of mountain road lead up to Courchevel Le Praz, Village, Moriond and finally Courchevel 1850. Allow about 2 h 15 without traffic, and more on peak-season Saturdays, when most chalets change over.

1. Private driver: the most comfortable option

A driver waits for you in the arrivals hall with a name sign, tracks your flight in case of delay and takes you straight to the door of your chalet or hotel. The vehicle is yours alone: no waiting for other passengers, no stops along the way.

• Pros: immediate departure, direct journey, door to door, fixed price known in advance.
• Ideal for: families, groups, business travellers, late arrivals.
• Good to know: for a group of 5 to 7, the cost per person is often close to that of a shuttle.

2. Shared shuttle

Several companies run scheduled shuttles or shared minibuses. The price per person is lower, but you wait for the vehicle to fill up and stop at various hotels and villages. The total journey time can easily exceed 3 to 4 hours.

3. Rental car

A rental car gives you freedom but requires care: under the French “Loi Montagne”, winter equipment (snow tyres or chains) is mandatory in Savoie from 1 November to 31 March. You also need to plan for parking in the resort, often limited and paid, and drive a sometimes snowy mountain road after a long trip.

4. Train and bus

You can reach Moûtiers station by train from Geneva with one or more connections, then take a bus or taxi up to Courchevel. It is a budget option, but long and impractical with skis and several suitcases. If you arrive in Moûtiers by train, a private transfer from the station saves you the wait.
